The Miami Heat look to hold off the visiting San Antonio Spurs, who have taken their last two contests over the Heat since winning the 2014 NBA Championship over them in five games. The Spurs have won four in a row, after beating the LA Lakers at home, and all their losses this season have come away from home. The Heat lost at home to the LA Clippers, but have won six of their last eight overall. According to the Spurs vs Heat 2016 NBA Odds at Bodog Basketball, the Heat are +6.5 point homedogs against the Spurs with the total at 193.5. Here is our Spurs vs Heat 2016 NBA prediction.
The Spurs (43-8, 15-8 V) beat the Lakers 106-102. They got a game-high 26 points from LaMarcus Aldridge and 20 points and 13 rebounds from Kawhi Leonard. San Antonio also got 14 points from Parker, 13 points from Patty Mills and 11 points from Danny Green.
San Antonio played without center Tim Duncan, who missed his seventh straight game (and 14th this season) with a sore right knee, and reserve guard Manu Ginobili, who is recovering from testicular surgery and will be out for at least four weeks.
Matt Bonner (calf) could miss his second consecutive game.
The Heat (29-23, 16-10 H) lost to the Clippers 93-100. Chris Bosh; Dwyane Wade and Goran Dragic each added 17 points, but Bosh (5-of-17) and Wade (7-of-20) did not have good shooting days. Whiteside, who matched up against Clippers DeAndre Jordan for much of the game, had 10 points and 10 rebounds off the bench. But Whiteside, who leads the NBA with 4.0 blocks per game, had no rejections. Whiteside made 4-of-6 on free throws.
Miami shot just 39.8 percent from the floor. “It was tough to get clean, open looks,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. “The pace was slow — their defense was set virtually every time down.”
Hassan Whiteside, who had been a starter until he got hurt and missed six games, came off the bench for the third straight time. Amar’e Stoudemire has replaced him as the starting center. In eight games without Whiteside this season, Miami has allowed 99.5 points. With Whiteside in the rotation, Miami has allowed 95.0 points.
Luol Deng has scored 15 or more points in five of the past six games.
Recent Trends to Consider:
Spurs are 5-0 ATS in the last 5 meetings.
Under is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings.
Under is 15-6 in the last 21 meetings in Miami.
Favorite is 7-3 ATS in the last 10 meetings.
Heat are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600.
The Bottom Line: if both teams weren’t so banged up and injured this would be a great contest, but because they are the Heat should be able to stay within the six points.
